Madrid is one of Europe’s most important cities. The Spanish capital has become one of the continent’s major focal points, as it is experiencing a period of business, cultural and educational growth. Universidad CEU San Pablo is one of the most prestigious Spanish universities, with strong international recognition, both for its academic excellence and for the values it instills in its faculty, staff, and students.

One of its main strengths is its international focus. Universidad CEU San Pablo is a global, modern institution connected to the world’s leading academic and research networks. It is the only Spanish university that offers joint international programs with prestigious institutions such as Boston University, the University of Chicago, UCLA Extension, and Fordham University. We offer bilingual degree programs, study abroad opportunities worldwide through nearly 400 international agreements, internships abroad, a summer university, and visits from international professors. All of this reflects our commitment to providing students with a truly international experience.

We have recently earned WSCUC (WASC Senior College and University Commission) accreditation, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a mark of academic quality for universities both nationally and internationally. In addition, our Hospitality Service allows us to provide personalized guidance to each student, helping them adjust to university life.

International Admission: Requirements for U.S. students

Universidad CEU San Pablo requires U.S. students to submit specific documentation to ensure proper academic and administrative evaluation. Listed below are the requirements for studying in Madrid.

Academic Requirements to Access University Studies in Spain

At an academic level, students must submit the following documentation:

  • Personal statement: A document in which the candidate explains why they want to study at Universidad CEU San Pablo in Madrid.
  • Academic transcripts equivalent to the first year of Spanish Bachillerato (U.S. 11th grade).

Mandatory Documentation for International Students

If a student has a nationality from a country outside the European Union, a student visa is required to stay in Spain during their studies. To apply, the following documents must be submitted:

  • Valid passport.
  • Admission letter from a recognized university.
  • Proof of sufficient financial means (check with the Spanish Consulate in your home country).
  • Health insurance with full coverage in Spain.
  • Medical certificates and criminal background checks, depending on the country of origin (please check with the Spanish Consulate in your country of origin).

Once in Spain, it is mandatory to apply for the TIE (Foreigners’ Identification Card), which is required to obtain legal residency in the country. It is also required to work, travel, and carry out administrative procedures.

Language Tests and Recognition of Foreign Degrees

For those who wish to continue their university studies in Spain after having previously studied in their local education system or in a system other than the Spanish one, there are two key procedures:

  • Recognition of pre-university studies: officially recognizes a foreign degree as equivalent to a Spanish one.
  • Credit transfer: allows students to pursue studies at a Spanish university without having to retake courses they have already passed. This process applies only to students who began their university studies abroad.

CEU San Pablo University offers full management of the recognition of pre-university studies through the Spanish Ministry of Education. To this end, students will be required to submit documentation that has been duly legalized according to their country of origin.

Hospitality Service for International Students

The CEU Hospitality Service at Universidad CEU San Pablo covers all the essential arrangements U.S. students need to settle in Spain smoothly. Below are some of the key procedures that may be challenging for international students.

Document Management and Review

From the very beginning, CEU San Pablo University assists future students with all the necessary paperwork and document review so they can study legally in Madrid. In addition to helping students with all the academic reports and documentation they need to submit, the advisors also assist them in gathering and submitting all the legal documentation required to reside in Spain during their time at the university.

Residence Permit (TIE) Management

At Universidad CEU San Pablo, we support our international students from the very beginning to ensure their arrival in Spain is a clear and hassle-free process. We understand that immigration procedures can raise questions, which is why we provide specialized and personalized assistance throughout the entire admission process.

The University collaborates with specialized immigration lawyers who handle the appointments and necessary procedures once the student is in Spain, making it easier for them to successfully complete their immigration process and focus on what matters most: their academic and personal experience at the university.

Transport Card Processing

A transport card is essential for living in Madrid. With the public transport card, students can use the following services within the Community of Madrid:

  • Madrid Metro (including the airport).
  • EMT buses (which run throughout the city of Madrid).
  • Light rail (connecting the city center with nearby towns).
  • Renfe Cercanías trains (connecting Madrid with surrounding municipalities).
  • Intercity buses throughout the Community of Madrid.

Assistance with Opening a Bank Account

Having a bank account is essential for everyone. With a bank account, students can make transactions and withdraw cash, allowing them to get around the city with ease. Universidad CEU San Pablo has a partnership with Banco Santander, so students can open an account at one of the most prestigious banks in Spain and internationally.

SIM Card Delivery and Activation

The university’s Hospitality Service helps international students set up a SIM card with a Spanish number and provides €15 in free calling and data. One of the university’s priorities is to ensure that students can always stay in touch with their family and friends, no matter how far away they are.

Overall, Universidad CEU San Pablo welcomes students from all corners of the world, providing them not only with a first-rate academic education but also helping them adjust to life in Spain.
